What Is A Mild Detergent

Using a mild detergent can safely clean certain garments.

Many clothing garments give specific cleaning instructions that require the use of a mild laundry detergent. Using a mild detergent avoids unnecessary damage to the clothing that a stronger detergent can cause.

Identification

Mild detergents are available in a variety of different types, including eco-friendly, hypoallergenic and baby formulas. These detergents are usually dye- and perfume-free and and do not contain harsh cleaners. Most mild detergents are bleach-free. The packaging labels will identify if the product is considered a mild detergent.

Usage

Mild laundry detergents are available in both powder and liquid forms. Mix any powdered mild detergent with an equal amount of water to lessen the abrasiveness of powders on clothing. Liquid mild detergents should not be applied directly to the clothing. Always follow packaging instructions for using mild detergent products as instructions vary per brand, washer type and laundry load size.

Warning

Mild detergents are safer than harsher laundry detergents, which may contain bleach. However, use precaution when using liquid and powder mild detergents as they can still cause allergic reactions, eye irritations, and other complications from close contact.
