A periodic deep cleaning keeps your rugs and carpets looking fresh.
Several of the Bissell upright deep cleaning machines for rugs and carpeting use their patented Dirtlifter power brushes to pull the dirt right out. In addition to the scrubbing brushes, Bissell machines use hot water and a proprietary cleaning formula. A deep cleaning machine with Dirtlifter is worthwhile for families who rent carpet cleaners several times a year. Because deep cleaning leaves the rug damp for at least a day, plan to stay out of the room as much as possible afterward.
Instructions
1. Vacuum the rug with a standard vacuum cleaner to remove surface dirt and dust.
2. Spray a pre-treatment on the rug, concentrating on the dirtiest areas, if necessary.
3. Remove the water tank as directed. Some lift up from the front of the unit, and some must be accessed by pressing a lever with your foot. Unlatch the back to remove the top piece, and fill the bottom half with hot tap water. For smaller units without a separate formula tank, add the cleaning formula with the water. Re-latch the tank, then place it back on the machine.
4. Pull the formula tank, if your unit has one, upward to remove it from the back of the unit. Add cleaning formula as directed and fill with hot tap water, then replace it.
5. Set the dial on the front of the unit according to whether you want a heavy, normal or light clean.
6. Plug in the cleaner and place it in the corner farthest away from the room's door. Allow it to heat up for a couple of minutes.
7. Turn the power on. Squeeze the trigger on the handle and move it back and forth over the carpet, starting in the corner and working your way toward the door. Release the trigger every other time you move the cleaner over an area on the rug.
8. Unplug the unit. Empty the dirty water and any leftover cleaning formula before storing your Bissell Dirtlifter carpet cleaner.
Tips Warnings
Move furniture out of the room to give yourself access to the whole rug for a complete cleaning.
After cleaning the floor, you can fill the water tank with clean water and repeat the process as a water-only rinse.
Always unplug your Bissell Dirtlifter carpet cleaner before removing the water and formula tanks.
