FirePlace Insulation

I'm going to be installing a wood burning fireplace insert in my present fireplace. There is going to be a gap around the insert, between the insert and the brick opening. What kind of insulation and/or insulation board can I use to fill this in. I didn't know if I could use regular fiberglass insulation (that didn't have backing, of course) or if there was a high heat insulation that you should use... Thanks, Kevin There is fireproof (nonflammable) fiberglass insulation available. Does your hearth store sell a trim kit that can go around stove and conceal the opening? Many insert manufacturers offer trim kits. There are probably better materials to use than fiberglass, which will not burn (nonflamable), but do not react the same to heat (melt?) and lose their properties. Look into rock wool or similar products that are more temperature stable. A board would be difficult to fit and seal well, but the right material with a stable filler might also work. Not a specific answer, but possibly a suggestion on other materials to look for. The seller of the insert may provide some valuable advice if he is knowledgable. Just make sure you do this tricky job correctly and can get the house insured if you have an insurance inspection for continued coverage. - Insurers ask hidden/masked questions with renewal notices that can give them an out regarding construction changes. Dick Thanks for yalls help... I had ordered the insert online so I couldn't ask there. The shops locally that I had gone to were more boutiques instead of stores with prices to match, no thanks... I called the local fireplace warehouse and was told to use high heat insulation, but they didn't carry it and didn't know where to get it??? I had checked Lowes and Home Depot with no luck so I just used to regular insulation with no problems... I've got a flashing kit but wanted to 'seal' around the unit before I put the flashing up...
