bard furnace
okay guys, i need some help. my husand knows nothing about all this stuff and i always fix everything, but i don't know anything about furnaces. mine is making a soft kind of clicking noise. i think it needs to be oiled because we have been here a year and it says it needs to be done every six months. the problem is i can not find out where to put the oil. i have taken off both panels to look at what i can see of the blower and the motor and i can see nothing. i went to the bard website and got no help. can anyone tell me what i need to do? i would really appreciate anything. Look at the blower housing and you'll see that it should be mounted on some rails at the top. Just about all brands are made this way so that the entire blower housing can be slid out for repair/service. There should be a couple hold down screws at the front. Before trying to slide the housing out, you may need to remove the wires Make a sketch of where they go. Now, look around the rim of the motor [both ends] for a little plug that needs to removed in order to lube the motor. At an appliance parts store you can get a small plastic bottle of oil called Zoom Spout. It has a long thin telescoping spout to get into tight spots. Oil the motor with just a squirt, rotate the wheel around for a while, and then another small squirt. Don't drown it in oil. Put it all back together and see if that stops the noise. i tried that last night before posting. there are no screws that i can get to and it doesn't look like it is mounted on any rails. it looks like it is permanantly in there. it is an older furnace and i don't have the manual. i just can't think of anything. Try looking closer with a bright light. There has to be a way to remove the blower section. okay, i got the blower housing out finally. i can see everything now, but i don't see any oil points. what should i look for? i really appreciate your help. Yea!! I knew you could do it. Look along the circumference edge of the motor end bells for a small plug. It may be plastic or metal. The metal type will have a round top. the plastic ones come right out but the metal ones have to be CAREFULLY tapped out with a screwdriver or they'll break off. Once you get the plugs out, follow my first post. No plugs?- the bearings are sealed and can't be oiled. You might as well clean the blower wheel since you have it out. Let us know how you make out. how big are these plugs? the only thing i see is a pretty big metal cap on the end of the motor. that is it. i will clean the whole thing while it is out because it is really gross. if that is the case though, the bearings being sealed, why does it say to oil it and do you have any ideas what the ticking noise could be? Look around the CIRCUMFERENCE of the end bell. The cap part you're describing is probably the bearing housing. Maybe after you clean all the dirt off you'll be able to see the plugs. There will only be one on each of the motor. When you spin the wheel by hand, do you hear the noise? i don't hear the noise when i spin it by hand. it hear it when the furnace turns on and is running. it is pretty quiet, but i can hear it all the same.
