A nurse esthetician is a registered nurse (RN) who has advanced training and knowledge about the skincare industry. Nurse estheticians are authorized to perform advanced skin treatments such as microdermabrasion, Botox injections, permanent makeup and other procedures commonly found at anti-aging centers and medical spas.
Instructions
1. Get your esthetician's license. You will need hands-on training from a cosmetology school and will need to log in a certain number of hours to obtain your esthetician's license. License requirements for various procedures, such as massage, electrology and makeup artistry, vary by state, and you may need to fulfill different training requirements for each type of procedure you plan to perform.
2. Train to become an RN. Both two-year associates and four-year bachelors degrees are available for RNs. You will learn basic skills such as administering medication, helping surgeons perform operations and helping patients cope with illness.
3. Pass the NCLEX-RN examination. All individuals who have completed RN training must take the NCLEX-RN in order to receive their license. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) has created this exam to ensure public safety and confirm that the nurse has the necessary competencies to perform procedures and treatments safely and effectively.
4. Complete a medical aesthetics educational training program. Training institutes such as Victoria Rayner's Institute for Career Advancement and the Aesthetics Medical Educators Training offer specialized aesthetic training for professionals who want to become certified in advanced dermatology and body treatments such as Botox, chemical peels, sclerotherapy and mesotherapy.
5. Fulfill hands-on training requirements through the medical aesthetics training program. Before becoming licensed to perform various anti-aging procedures, you will need to complete a certain number of hours of hands-on training to demonstrate your skills and knowledge.
Tips Warnings
Some RNs get their esthetician's license after working in the field for several years; it's up to you in which order you acquire your education and skills. Online and distance education options are available for advanced medical aesthetic certificates.
Make sure your esthetician training facility is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission for Cosmetology Arts and Sciences.
