Manzanilla tea is more commonly known as chamomile tea.
Manzanilla also goes by the name matricaria recutita, and more commonly as chamomile. The benefits of tea made with manzanilla have been commonly known throughout the ages by the ancient Egyptians, and more recently by researchers in Japan and the United Kingdom. Many people drink chamomile tea for its soothing properties, and research is starting to explain why the tea is effective in helping people relax.
Urinary effects
Drinking chamomile tea has been shown to increase the urinary presence of an amino acid called glycine, which reduces muscle spasms. According to sciencedaily.com, researchers have reported an increase in urinary levels of hippurate, a breakdown product of certain phenolics which have antibacterial properties.
Diabetes Complication Relief
According to the American Chemical Society, diabetic rats fed chamomile extract for 21 days showed a decrease in blood glucose levels and certain enzymes which are associated with diabetic complications such as nerve damage, kidney damage, and loss of vision.
General uses
Chamomile tea is commonly used to boost the immune system to fight off colds and other infections, relieve menstrual cramps, relax nerves, soothe upset stomachs, and relieve rheumatism and back pain.
