Price Pfister kitchen faucets use a single cartridge that contains valves and gaskets to control the temperature of the water and its flow rate. If the faucet is leaking or having issues with maintaining proper flow, this is the part to replace. Replacing it fixes all the most common problems with the faucet and it's something even inexperienced homeowners can learn to do. It only takes about ten minutes to master this plumbing home repair.
Instructions
1. Shut the hot and cold water pipe valves under the faucet (normally located in the sink cabinet).
2. Take off the cap on top of the handle by lifting it off with your fingers. Loosen the screw under this cap with an Allen wrench. Slide off the handle.
3. Unscrew the bonnet and fastener ring by hand. Use a pair of large pliers (channel pliers work well also) wrapped in a towel to loosen this piece if sediment build up makes it hard to remove.
4. Pull the cartridge out of the body of the faucet and either clean it off thoroughly with water and the towel, or replace it with a new replacement cartridge from Price Pfister (available at a hardware store).
5. Screw the fastener ring and bonnet back on, securing the cartridge in place. Replace the handle and tighten the screw. Then put the cap back on top of the faucet handle.
