Strands of Christmas lights with C7 sockets.
Bubble lights have a small light bulb concealed in an opaque base with a glass tube of liquid attached above it. The light illuminates the liquid in the tube and the heat from the light bulb causes the liquid to boil and create bubbles. Bubble lights were first sold in the 1940s and were available until the 70s. As of 2010, they are available again. They cannot be attached to strings of modern mini-lights or LED lights. You will need to purchase a strand of larger lights with C7 candelabra-size bulbs to attach them to your tree.
Instructions
1. String a strand of Christmas tree lights with C7 sockets on the tree. A C7 is a standard candelabra socket that will accept 1/12-inch Christmas light bulbs.
2. Select the socket on the strand where you wish to attach the bubble light. Attach this socket to a tree branch by the clip at the bottom of the socket. The bulb should point straight up.
3. Unscrew the light bulb in that socket and screw in the bubble light bulb.
4. Plug in the strand of lights and watch for the bubbles.
Tips Warnings
The bulb will need to heat up for several minutes before the bubbles begin to form.
Entire strands of bubble lights are also available. You just string them on the tree and plug them in.
There are also battery powered strings of lights that only have to be switched on.
Your strand of lights should be UL listed for indoor/outdoor use 120 volts, 60 Hz, 5 watts.
Unplug the lights before removing and replacing any bulbs.
