Advantages & Disadvantages Of Nandrolone

Nandrolone use has many disadvantages.

Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid that is derived from testosterone. Its primary function is to build muscles. Nandrolone is a prescription drug that is used for the treatment of kidney disease and anemia. However, it is also used by bodybuilders and wrestlers to help obtain an increase in muscle mass in the body and by those who participate in other sports activities, such as tennis, swimming and baseball, that require high amounts of energy and muscle power. However, use of nandrolone by healthy individuals for its muscle-building elements is not only illegal, it may cause serious health problems.

Advantages of Medical Use

Nandrolone has many approved medical uses and can have several advantages within this context, according to Drugs.com. Nandrolone can help rebuild damaged tissues and facilitate repair of red blood cell damage, so it may be used as a treatment for anemia. When used to treat anemia, the drug can help stimulate the production of red blood cells in combination with other treatment methods such as iron intake and transfusions. It can also help patients to build stronger muscles or recover from surgeries, infections and trauma by helping to reverse catabolic processes (breakdowns of bodily energy). Nandrolone is also used in women with hormone-responsive metastatic breast cancer who do not respond to traditional treatments, and it can be used in children suffering from dwarfism when human growth supplements are not working; in both cases, nandrolone works by altering hormone function within the body.

Disadvantages of Medical Use

Even when used legally, nandrolone can have significant disadvantages. According to Drugs.com, possible adverse effects of nandrolone use include hepatocellular carcinoma (a primary liver cancer), oily skin, acne, an enlarged clitoris or menstrual problems in female patients, unnatural deepening of the voice, excessive hair growth in female patients, a sore tongue, iron deficiency, pain in the bones, difficulty clotting leading to excessive or unusual bleeding, depression, discomfort, bad breath, vomiting, discolored stool, fever and loss of appetite.

Illegal Steroid Use

Nandrolone is considered a gentle drug as compared with other steroids, according to Iron Man Magazine. It can cause positive effects on the body without leaving too many physical or psychological scars that are associated with other, harsher steroids. However, nandrolone use in healthy individuals, such as athletes trying to increase their muscle mass, is illegal and can result in serious health issues.

Nandrolone artificially raises levels of testosterone in the body. This can lead to problems ranging from baldness to the formation of tumors. High cholesterol, infertility and aggression caused by the steroid are also possible. Although nandrolone is gentler than certain other steroids, there is still the potential for these problems to arise.
