Adjust The Antiscald Setting On Delta Faucets

Anti-scald faucets are adjustable to prevent burns.

Delta faucets makes models for the kitchen and bathroom with a handle or knob for operation between cold and hot water temperatures. The knob or handle contains a mixer valve that allows preset maximum amounts of hot water into the system and mixes it with cold to obtain temperatures in the warm range. Delta faucets of this type have an anti-scald setting that allows you to adjust the maximum hot water range to prevent accidental burns.

Instructions

Checking Hot Water Temperature

1. Turn the Delta faucet on full force and wait about two minutes for both the hot and cold water to mix and exit the spout.

2. Turn the faucet handle fully counterclockwise for hot water only.

3. Place a thermometer inside of a heavy plastic cup. Hold the cup under the stream of water from the spout.

4. Pull the cup out of the hot water before it is full and observe the temperature reading on the thermometer.

5. Remove the handle or knob on the Delta faucet by gently prying out the center of the knob to reveal a screw. Remove the screw in a counterclockwise direction and set aside.

6. Pull the handle or knob straight off, away from the faucet, and set aside.

Large Round Knob Type

7. Turn the rotational stop counterclockwise to decrease the maximum hot water temperature by 6 degrees F per setting. The rotational stop is a plastic piece in the faucet surrounding the center. Place a forefinger on one of the bumps on the piece and a thumb on the other side. Turn one setting so that the teeth audibly click into place.

8. Turn the rotational stop clockwise to increase the maximum hot water temperature by 6 degrees F per setting.

9. Recheck the maximum hot water temperature and make any adjustments necessary.

10. Replace the knob by sliding it on the faucet. Insert the screw and tighten with a Phillips screwdriver in a clockwise direction.

Handle Type with Volume Control

11. Turn the rotational stop clockwise to decrease the maximum hot water temperature by 2 degrees F per setting. The rotational stop in these models of Delta faucets are a round, plastic disc in the center of the faucet. Grasp the disc between a thumb and forefinger to turn one setting at a time. Each setting allows the teeth to make an audible click when turning.

12. Turn the rotational stop counterclockwise to increase the maximum hot water temperature by 2 degrees F per setting.

13. Recheck the maximum hot water temperature and make any adjustments necessary.

14. Slide the handle back on the faucet, insert the screw and tighten it in a clockwise direction with a Phillips screwdriver.

Tips Warnings

Basic local plumbing codes require the hottest setting of water to be 110 to 120 degrees F or less to prevent scalding hazards.

Never leave small children unattended in a bathroom. They may accidentally turn the water on full hot and burn themselves severely.
