Make Healthy Granola Bars

Make your own granola bars.

Kids love granola bars, but store-bought granola bars may have ingredients that you don't want your kids to have. Instead, make your own all-natural granola bars. These bars are simple to make and will be a great after-school treat for your kids.

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375 F. Combine oats, wheat germ and almonds in a small glass or metal pan. When the oven is heated, toast the mixture for 10 minutes.

2. Line the 9-inch-by-13-inch pan with foil while the mixture is toasting. Allow some of the foil to hang over on all sides. Combine sugar, honey, butter, vanilla, cinnamon and salt in a medium saucepan. Heat on medium until butter and sugar are melted, but do not allow liquids to boil.

3. Remove the oat mixture from oven, and turn the oven off. Remove sugar mixture from burner, and turn off the stove. Pour the oat mixture into a mixing bowl and cover with sugar mixture until combined. Add in the dried cherries and mix until evenly distributed.

4. Pour the granola into a 9-inch-by13-inch pan. Using a spatula, spread the granola into an even layer. Let it cool at room temperature for three hours and cut it into bars.
