Cook With Fresh Cilantro

Cilantro can be used in a variety of dishes.

Cilantro is an herb that's been used around the world for more than 5,000 years. Also commonly known as coriander, cilantro was brought to the United States by European settlers in the mid 17th-century. Cilantro has a wide array of medicinal uses, ranging from serving as a digestive aid to also acting as an alternative treatment for diabetes. Cilantro is also high in antioxidants, which have been linked to health benefits in humans. It's healthy, flavorful and can be cooked in almost anything.

Instructions

1. Purchase or pick cilantro fresh from your garden. The leaves should be green and non-wilted. Don't use the plant in your dish if you have any concerns regarding its freshness.

2. Hand-wash your cilantro under faucet. Rinse the leaves and scrub away any extra dirt or residue. Wipe dry with paper towel.

3. Use scissors to cut cilantro pieces into desired size. Allow leaves to fall into cup or onto cutting board. Scissors allow for more control when cutting cilantro, as compared to a knife.

4. Add cilantro to your dish. Cilantro can be cooked in a variety of foods or a simple decoration to help with the presentation of your dish. Popular foods that cilantro can be used with include salsa, tacos and pizza.
