Cook And Peel Chestnuts

Cooking and peeling chestnuts gets easier with practice.

Whether their aroma reminds you of the streets of Europe or the fireside at a country Christmas celebration, roasted chestnuts make a festive winter snack. While the entire process of cooking and peeling chestnuts may be somewhat time-consuming, the delicious, hearty taste of a roasted chestnut makes it all worthwhile.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

2. Cut a criss-cross shape across the flat side and the domed side of each chestnut's shell. This will prevent the chestnuts from exploding when they are heated.

3. Spread the chestnuts on a baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the oven, and let the chestnuts roast for 15 to 20 minutes.

4. Remove the chestnuts from the oven. Let them cool for a little while so you do not burn your hands.

5. Peel the shell off the chestnut by ripping the shell near the criss-cross incision you made earlier. After roasting, the shell will have curled back a little, making this easier.
