Make An Initial Wax Seal Pendant

A wax-seal pendant is made in the shape of the impression that a seal makes when pressed into sealing wax. Seals are made of metal and may have heraldic designs, icons or initials on the surface. Initial seals come in various font designs and can be used in any medium that will take an impression. To make a lasting wax-seal pendant you can use precious-metal clay. The clay will take the impression of a seal and fire to a metal finish, keeping the shape imparted by the seal.

Instructions

1. Bush vegetable oil on a flat surface and any tools, including the gloves and seal that the PMC will touch. It is extremely sticky, and the oil will keep it from sticking to the surface. The oil will burn off later without leaving marks on the PMC.

2. Knead the PMC until it is soft. Pull off a small piece and place it on a flat surface.

3. Press the seal into the piece of PMC.

4. Punch a hole in the PMC with the straw. This will create a hole for a chain to go through.

5. Allow the piece to dry for 24 hours. To speed up drying, place the piece in an oven on the lowest temperature for 20 minutes.

6. Place the piece on a surface that is fireproof. Fire the piece with the torch. When the PMC turns bright pink, fire the PMC for another 10 minutes.

7. Put the piece in water to cool it down.

8. Brush the piece with a wire brush to remove any chalky residue.
