Fry Potato Pellets

Potato pellets are easy to fry.

Potato pellets, or tater tots, are small pellet-size potatoes. Most often, the pellets are made up of shredded potatoes baked together in a pellet shape, but you can also cook solid potato pellets as well.

Instructions

1. Fill the pan with cooking oil. Leave at least 2 inches of pan at the top unfilled so that the oil will not spill over the top when you add the pellets. Place the oil on medium heat. Heat the oil to a temperature between 365 degrees Fahrenheit and 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Keep the pellets frozen until you are ready to fry them. This will prevent them from absorbing too much oil and getting soggy.

3. Place the pellets in the oil carefully, using a slotted spoon. Only add enough pellets to cover the bottom of the pan to prevent overcrowding.

4. Fry the pellets until golden brown, stirring occasionally, to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pan. It should take between three and six minutes to cook potato pellets to a golden brown color. It will take longer to cook fresh potatoes. Fresh potatoes may take up to 15 minutes to cook.

5. Spread a paper towel onto a large plate. Scoop the pellets out of the oil with the slotted spoon and transfer to the plate. Remove the oil from the heat and turn it off, or wait until it heats back up and cook another batch of pellets.
