Cinnamon rolls can be covered with a variety of glazes to suit your sugary preference.
The aroma of baking cinnamon buns on a lazy Saturday morning can't be beat by much -- except maybe the taste of the glaze that graces this delicious baked dough. There are a variety of glazes to be made -- from the very basic to the ultra-gourmet. Whichever glaze you choose to create, the objective in using a glaze, versus a frosting, is to make the surface of the cinnamon bun smooth and glossy. A glaze, though categorized as a frosting, maintains a thin and sleek consistency whereas a frosting is thick and fluffy.
Instructions
Base Glaze
1. Combine the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla in a mixing bowl.
2. A whisk is sufficient for mixing a basic glaze.
Mix thoroughly with a whisk, creating a glaze of your desired consistency.
3. Use a spatula to evenly coat cinnamon rolls. Add additional powdered sugar, if the glaze is too thin or runny -- or vice-versa, if the glaze is too thick. This basic glaze will harden a bit as it cools.
