Make Cinnamon Apple Slices

Apple for one.

An apple is a great snack. The fruit is high in soluble fiber and antioxidants and has only 80 calories. Apples are wonderful chopped and added to salads, cereals and baked goods. One apple can be quickly made into a tasty bowl of cinnamon slices that taste like apple pie without the sugar or crust.

Instructions

1. Choose a medium ripe apple. Gala, Cameo and Delicious apples make crunchy sweet slices. For a more tart flavor, choose Granny Smith, Pippin or Jonathan.

2. Wash the apple. Do not peel it. Cut the apple in quarters. Do this by cutting the apple in half from the stem to the blossom end, then cutting each half into two pieces.

3. The apple seeds are sometimes bitter. The apple core is the seedy center of the apple so cut out the core in each quarter and throw it away with the seeds and stem.

4. Use a sharp paring or kitchen knife. Cut each quarter into thin slices from the stem to the other end. Each slice will be a slender wedge of unpeeled apple.

5. Put the slices into a large food storage container. Add a teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Shake well to coat each slice evenly with cinnamon. These slices are ready to eat.

6. These cinnamon slices can be quickly cooked for dessert or snacking. Cook for two minutes in a microwave dish or until apple slices are tender. Serve warm.
