No Cook Finger Foods

Take finger foods to the next level with minimal preparation.

Whipping up a bevy of finger foods for your next get-together doesn't require standing over the stove or even opening up your oven. You can create impressive appetizers using readily available ingredients that will wow your guests and satisfy your cravings for utensil-free fare. Try your hand at these tapas that are low on prep time and big on taste.

Chips and Homemade Salsa Verde

Skip the jarred red salsa and whip up a batch of fresh salsa verde, commonly known as green salsa. Chop 1/2 lb. husked tomatillos into quarters and finely blend in a food processor with one large serrano chile pepper, 2 tbsp. chopped onion, 2 tbsp. cilantro, 3/4 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. garlic. Serve with tortilla chips and a side of sour cream.

Tomato and Olive Relish

Skip the stove top and prepare your own tomato and olive relish in one bowl. Combine one can of diced tomatoes, 1/3 cup chopped Kalamata olives, 1 tbsp. finely chopped parsley, 1 tbsp. lemon juice and 1 tbsp. olive oil. Serve with small slices of bread or crispy crostini to create a cold bruschetta appetizer, or serve atop half of a sliced tortilla wrap.

Basil Infused Olive Oil on Vegetables

Olive oil infusions are a quick and healthy way to add a punch of flavor to vegetable dishes. Plunge 1 cup fresh basil into boiling water for approximately one minute, and then blend in a food processor with a 1/2 cup olive oil. Salt to taste. Drizzle over your choice of fresh washed and sliced vegetables, such as carrots, cucumbers, red bell peppers and broccoli. Warm pita slices are a welcome addition to this dish.

Fresh Fruit Kebabs

Take fresh fruit chunks to the next level with skewers and a healthy dipping sauce. Whisk 4 oz. of sugar-free lemon yogurt with 1 tsp. fresh lime juice to create a zesty lemon lime dip. Slice four to six pineapple chunks, four to six strawberries, one peeled kiwi, and half a banana into bite-sized chunks suitable for skewering. Thread one of each fruit onto skewers in an alternating pattern. You can dip the finished skewers into orange juice to keep fruit from prematurely turning brown.
