Fondant lets you take an ordinary cupcake and personalize it or make it into something spectacular. If you can roll out clay and make clay figures, than you can roll out fondant and make fondant decorations for cupcakes.
Instructions
1. Use quick pour fondant on cupcakes for a smooth, sleek appearance. Put the cupcakes onto a wire rack. Fill an icing bag with quick pour fondant, and squirt it onto the cupcakes. Add sprinkles or other decorations before the fondant sets, or leave the fondant as the only decoration.
2. Create holiday cupcakes by baking and icing the cupcakes as usual. Then take the fondant and create holiday specific decorations. You can use cookie cutters for hard-to-form pieces, like Christmas trees or hearts, and make other easy decorations by hand, like snowmen and pumpkins. Then place one fondant decoration on the top of each cupcake, and add sprinkles or coarse, colored sugar.
3. Personalize cupcakes for a birthday party by making faces and hair from different colored fondant. Attach one face to each cupcake, and decorate it to look like your party guests. Write the name of each guest under the face.
4. Use cookie cutters and cut out flowers, leaves, butterflies, stars and hearts. Take other colors of fondant and create small shapes and details for your fondant cut-outs. Attach the details with a small dab of icing and then put thin metal skewers or floral wire into the fondant shapes. Stick the skewers into the cupcakes to add height to your cupcakes.
5. Bake large cupcakes and cover the entire cupcake with fondant. Take a contrasting color and create gumdrop-shaped domes. Attach them all over the cupcake with a dab of icing. These cupcakes are good for a shower or elegant party.
