Make 4th Of July Pretzel Sparklers

Fourth of July pretzel sparklers tickle just about everyone. They're easy to make, require few ingredients, and are a fun project for the kids. Melting the chocolate over hot water is a must, so supervise children closely. Turn an ordinary pretzel into a 4th of July sparkler in less than 30 minutes.

Instructions

1. Set the double boiler on the stove with 3 or 4 inches of water in the bottom pan. Turn on medium heat. Bring the water to a boil, then turn it down to a simmer.

2. Put the melting chocolate in the upper portion of the double boiler. Set the pan on top of the double boiler.

3. Melt the chocolate, stirring occasionally until it's smooth. Transfer the melted chocolate into an empty, clean soup can. Turn off heat. Set the can of chocolate in the water to keep it warm.

4. Dip the pretzel rods into the can of chocolate. Cover 1/2 to 3/4 of the pretzel rod and let the excess chocolate drip back into the can.

5. Pour the red, white and blue sprinkles into a shallow baking pan. Roll the pretzel rod in the sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet.

6. Lay the decorated pretzels out on a sheet of waxed paper or parchment, without touching one another. Allow sufficient time for the chocolate to set before serving. Serve standing in short glass vase or a flower pot.

7. Change up the recipe by using semi-sweet or milk chocolate. Roll the pretzels in solid color sprinkles.
