Muffins are not just for breakfast.
From blueberry to poppyseed, muffins are fantastic foods that pair well with coffee, tea or a big glass of milk. They also make a great addition to your craft repertoire. Make crafts using real muffins --- or create treats that simply look like real muffins.
Mini-Muffin Sculptures
Celebrate the holidays or a special occasion with mini-muffin sculptures. Buy or make a batch of mini-muffins and ice them in colors to match your occasion. Then, on a plate or platter, arrange the muffins in a fun shape. For example, you could make a red and green mini-muffin tree at Christmas, or an orange and black Jack-O-Lantern for Halloween. Embellish your mini-muffin sculpture with bits of candy, paper cutouts, ribbon or other accessories.
Muffin Candles
If you love the smell of muffins, but not the guilt that comes with eating them, create your own muffin candles. Combine a few items from your home with a candle-making kit, and you'll have some fat-free, calorie-free treats in no time. Line muffin tins with paper or foil muffin wrappers --- double- or triple-up for added security. Melt your wax, coloring it light cream to resemble muffin batter or whatever color you like. Add your scents, such as blueberry or chocolate chip, whatever makes your mouth water. Carefully pour the melted wax into the tin and add your wick. If you want iced muffins, prepare a second batch of melted wax, add colors and scents, and whip it until frothy or creamy. Spoon the "frosting" over your muffin candles.
Muffin Flowers
While you don't actually need muffins for this craft, you'll use the little paper wrappers they come in. You'll need craft sticks, paper, paint and glue. Paint the craft sticks and the muffin wrappers and let them dry. Cut out leaf-shapes from the paper. When the paint is dry, glue the muffin wrappers to the top of the craft sticks so they look like flowers. Add the leaves to the stem. Embellish the wrapper with buttons, silk flower petals, glitter or whatever accessories you have handy. Muffin flowers are best enjoyed when served atop a freshly baked muffin.
Muffin Tin Meals
Turn mealtime into craft time with Muffin Tin Meals. The brainchild of blogger Michelle, the self-dubbed Muffin Tin Mom, Muffin Tin Meals are the "the American version of the Japanese bento box meal." Moms (or any creative eater) can simply fill muffin tins with bite-sized bits of favorite foods. The foods could be color coordinated (all green for St. Patrick's Day, for example), or themed --- gummy fish, fish crackers and coconut pudding for a beach theme. And of course, you can always add muffins.
