Make An Orange Mojito

A mojito is a classic Cuban cocktail with a rum base that can provide a sweet, cooling effect at your summer barbecue. Flavored versions of the drink, such as an orange mojito, can be made by substituting the traditional lime with orange slices, and some of the club soda with orange juice. This recipe makes 6 servings.

Instructions

1. Cut an orange into 6 to 8 wedges with a sharp knife. Set aside.

2. Measure granulated white sugar into a large pitcher.

3. Pour orange juice into the pitcher. Fresh juice is best, but you can use any kind of orange juice.

4. Add a handful of fresh mint leaves to the pitcher. Although mint is a traditional ingredient in a mojito, if you do not like mint, you can omit it.

5. Use a muddler to combine the sugar, orange juice and mint. A muddler is a kitchen tool found at bar supply stores (see Resources) that is flat at one end and is used to crush ingredients together. If you don't have a muddler, use a wooden spoon.

6. Add rum to the mixture in the pitcher. You can use white rum or an orange-flavored rum for an abundantly citrusy mojito.

7. Pour club soda into the pitcher. Mix all of the ingredients together.

8. Add a few ice cubes to each glass. Pour the orange mojito into the glass, sticking an orange wedge on top for extra flavor and artful presentation.
