Fold Phyllo Triangles

Use phyllo dough to make assorted tasty snacks.

Paper-thin phyllo dough is used to make traditional Greek pastries such as baklava and spanakopita. You can use the versatile, flaky dough to make everything from savory appetizers to sweet desserts for parties and special events. To make individual pastries, simply fill the phyllo dough with the desired filling -- cheese or chocolate are popular choices -- and fold it into a triangle shape to create a bite-sized treat.

Instructions

1. Unroll the sheet of phyllo dough. Lay the dough out on a piece of wax or parchment paper.

2. Use a sharp knife or kitchen scissors to cut the dough into several strips. These strips should be 3-inches wide and 17-inches long. Place one strip on a flat work surface. Cover the remaining strips with a piece of wax paper topped with a damp kitchen towel to prevent the dough from drying out.

3. Spread melted butter over the phyllo dough using a pastry brush. Place a spoonful of the desired filling at the end of the right side of the dough strip.

4. Fold the right corner over to create a triangle with the filling enclosed inside. Continue folding the strip of dough to the opposite end while maintaining the triangle shape; fold the dough in the same manner as you would fold a flag.

5. Brush the top of the triangular-shaped pastry with butter before baking it.
