Things You Can Make With Imitation Crabmeat

Imitation crab meat can be used in place of real crab in many recipes.

Also known as surimi, imitation crab meat is a mixture of fish that have been shaped, colored and flavored so it looks like real crab meat. A majority of the time, imitation crab meat is made from Alaskan pollock; however, depending upon the brand, other types of fish may be added to the mixture. Though not the real thing, imitation crab meat can be used in recipes just like crab.

Garlic Butter Noodles

Seafood and garlic are a good combination when creating a pasta dinner. To make garlic butter noodles you will need to melt a stick of butter in a saute pan and add some fresh chopped garlic and parsley. Once the butter is completely melted add the imitation crab meat and warm. Prepare noodles of your choice as directed on packaging. Place noodles in a bowl and top with the melted garlic butter and imitation crab meat. If desired, you can add tomatoes, peas, onions or broccoli. Serve your garlic butter noodles with some garlic or Italian bread.

Crab Spread

Make a crab spread using imitation crab meat that can be served with crackers or bread sticks. Chop imitation crab meat into smaller pieces. Mix together a brick of softened cream cheese, one cup of mayonnaise, six chopped green onions and imitation crab meat together. Put in bowl and refrigerate for at least one hour. When ready to serve pour some cocktail sauce over the dip, completely covering the top of it.

Italian Salad

Make an Italian salad topped off with some imitation crab meat. Marinate the imitation crab meat in Italian dressing for at least one hour. Make the salad with a iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce and spinach leaves. Add some red and green onions, red and green peppers, croutons, tomatoes, olives and cucumbers. Top of salad with marinated imitation crab meat and add extra dressing if desired.

Crab Quesadillas

Turn your seafood dinner into a Mexican fiesta by making quesadillas with imitation crab meat. To make, place a flour tortilla in a saute pan that has been buttered. Add a handful of shredded Mexican cheese, chopped onions, green peppers, tomatoes, chilies and chopped imitation crab meat. Top off with second tortilla. Cook on both sides until cheese is completely melted. If desired, serve with salsa, sour cream and guacamole.
