Natural Deodorant Recipes

homemade deodorant

When deodorant was invented, bathing was not done very often. Deodorant was used to mask the odor of perspiration. Humans produce one to two pints of sweat, on average, per day. The moisture on our skin promotes bacteria which causes the odor. Deodorant works to eliminate that odor. Natural deodorant recipes are gentle on the skin and do not block the sweat glands.

Spray Recipe

For a natural spray deodorant, in a small bowl, mix 2 tsps. of zinc oxide powder with 2/3 cup of witch hazel extract, 2 tbsp. of aloe-vera juice and 30 to 40 drops of essential oils. After you have mixed the ingredients well, pour into a small spray bottle. This is gentle enough to use every day. Add rose or lavender for a different smell. Keep the spray stored in your refrigerator; it will increase the shelf life.

Tea Tree Oil

If you have sensitive skin, tea tree oil can be a great deodorant product for you. Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of corn starch. Make sure you mix the two well, then add 10 drops of tea tree oil. Tea tree oil works against fungus and germs and is a great antiseptic. Place the mixture in a jar or bowl and use a powder brush to apply to the skin.

Paste Deodorant

To make a paste or stick-like deodorant, mix equal parts of baking soda, petroleum jelly and talcum powder. Try starting with a few tablespoons of each. Heat all of the ingredients on low heat on the stove until the jelly has melted; stir constantly so that it does not stick. Once it has melted, pour the mixture into a container and store it tightly. Once the deodorant has cooled you can use it as a lotion.
