Prepare & Eat Caviar

Caviar is often served with champagne cocktails.

Caviar is a delicacy that can be enjoyed as an appetizer when hosting a cocktail party or before a gourmet meal. There are simple rules you can follow when serving caviar to maintain its flavor and freshness. Several garnishments are good accompaniments to caviar, and caviar can also be served with cocktail refreshments as well.

Instructions

1. Serve caviar cold, by itself, in a nonmetallic bowl nestled inside a larger bowl filled with ice. Metal bowls and spoons (including silver) will give the caviar a metallic taste, according to On the Fly. Use servers that are made of wood, bone, plastic or mother-of-pearl when serving caviar.

2. Put out caviar with toast points or unsalted crackers as a garnishment. Keep the garnishment somewhat bland as you do not want to interfere with the flavor of the caviar. Other popular accompaniments to caviar are lemon wedges, sour cream, hard-cooked eggs (chopped) and minced onion.

3. Pour a champagne or vodka cocktail with caviar as a liquid refreshment, and when eating caviar, only serve yourself approximately 2 tsp. or 2 ozs., as any more than that is considered overindulging, according to What's Cooking in America.
