Make Italian Espresso Coffee

Espresso is an important tradition in Italy, where it's prized for its intense aroma and deep hazelnut color. Italian coffee lovers have favorite techniques for creating the delicious brew, and with some experimentation, you can discover your own specialized espresso.

Instructions

1. Pour bottled water in the bottom chamber of the espresso maker, up to the fill line.

2. Attach the strainer. Make sure that the water level isn't so high that it seeps in. If it does, remove the strainer and pour off some water.

3. Fill the strainer with Italian coffee, and press it down lightly. Don't pack it too hard or it may create too much pressure in the pot. Screw the top of the espresso machine onto the strainer.

4. Place the espresso maker on the stove, with the heat on low. Allow the coffee to cook slowly.

5. Listen for the bubbling of the coffee, and for the sound indicating that the last of the coffee is coming through.

6. Remove the coffee from the stove immediately. If you leave it too long, the coffee will taste burnt.
