Can Grapefruit

Canning fruits and vegetables is a great way to enjoy your favorite seasonal foods all year long. Grapefruit is easy to preserve and the process can occur right in your kitchen. The key to successful canning is to have everything you need ready so that you can work quickly.

Instructions

1. Wash the glass ball jars in the dishwasher and place the lids into hot water for five minutes to soften the sticky surface for proper closure.

2. Peel the grapefruit with your fingers and remove any leftover rind. Pull the sections apart and remove the seeds. Set sections aside.

3. Bring water, sugar and salvaged grapefruit juice to a boil in your medium sized pot. Stir frequently.

4. Fill your cleaned glass jars with the sections of grapefruit. Be sure that there is a 1/2 inch of space left at the top of the jar.

5. Pour the hot syrup over the grapefruit and leave 1/2 inch of space at the top of the jar. Wipe the spills around the jar and place the lids on top of the jars and screw the ring around the lid.

6. Place the covered jars into your canner or oversized pot of boiling water. Emerge the jars completely in the water and boil them for at least 10 minutes.

7. Use your jar grabber to remove the jars from the canner and set aside to cool. Store in a cool and dry space.
