Make A Substitute For Bisquick

Many recipes call for Bisquick, which is really just a basic mixture of ingredients most people have on hand. Knowing make Bisquick from scratch is helpful when it's not available in the area you live in or for those who prefer to use quality ingredients. Make up a batch of this to have on hand for quick baking needs.


Instructions


1. Put 6 cups of flour into a large mixing bowl. Split the mixture into halves or thirds to make mixing the ingredients easier. Just be sure to split other ingredients in equal parts as well.


2. Place the sugar, powdered milk, baking powder and salt into another mixing bowl and mix all the ingredients thoroughly.


3. Add the mixture to the flour and use a fork to ensure the entire mixture is well blended.


4. Cut in the shortening using two butter knives. The shortening should mix with the flour mixture to create little pea-sized balls. Continue mixing until the balls are almost gone and the mixture is powdery again.


5. Store in an airtight container and in a cool, dry place to keep the freshness for about a month. Store the homemade mix in the freezer to keep the freshness for several months. In warm houses or warm weather, store the mix in the refrigerator.
