Spicy Spanish Foods

Food is an important part of the culture of Spain. Meals are a time to relax with family and with friends. Each region of Spain is known for its own characteristic dishes and flavors.The Indigo Guide website says that spicy Spanish foods vary among the regions, and each region of Spain has distinctive dishes that are particular to that area. The various areas of Spain take advantage of local native spices to create a cuisine unlike any other area in the world.


La Rioja


The cuisine of La Rioja in Spain reflects the influence of neighboring regions with dishes that have been adapted to local tastes and available food products. According to Spain Recipes website, farmers grow peppers, garlic, flavorful onions, lettuce and many other vegetables. Fava beans are a favorite ingredient in many dishes in La Rioja. The fava beans in La Rioja are never fully dried like other beans, so they retain much of their original flavor and blend well with spicy dishes.


Spain Recipes also says that salsa frittata is a popular spicy green sauce with chilies, tomatoes, avocados and cheese that is served with fried foods. Spicy chorizo sausages are a local favorite and are served with local fresh vegetables. For example, spicy potatoes made with chorizo are served with meats like pork or lamb. Fish are imported from the coastal regions where they are prepared with tomatoes and peppers.


Catalonia

Navarra


Navarra, located in northern Spain, is renowned for using natural ingredients to prepare local cuisine. Spicy pollo chilindron is a chicken and smoked ham dish that is flavored with smoked paprika, peppers, garlic and onions. Piquillo peppers are frequently used in meat dishes to add a spicy flavor. Tapas, or snack foods, are popular in the Navarra region of Spain. Popular tapas include piquillo peppers lightly saut ed in olive oil, manchego cheese, chorizo sausage and breads.
