Make Plum Fruit Leather

Sometimes fresh fruit begs you to do something different with it rather than a commonplace cobbler or pie. For a refreshing change of pace, consider making delicious fruit leather out of delicious summer produce. Plums are a tasty fruit that are ideal for using to make fruit leather. If you have a fruit dehydrator you can use this to make the fruit leather, otherwise an oven will suffice. With a few common kitchen ingredients and utensils, you will quickly be ready to eat your delicious plum fruit leather.

Instructions

1. Place the prepared plums into the saucepan. Add the water and slowly heat the fruit over low heat. Place the cover on the pan and allow it to simmer for approximately 15 minutes until the plums are cooked.

2. Uncover the saucepan and stir the plums. Mash the plums with the potato masher. Add 1 tsp. of lemon juice and begin to add the sugar slowly to the plum mixture. Add one spoonful of sugar at a time so you do not over-sweeten the plums.

3. Cook the plums for approximately ten more minutes.

4. Remove the plums from the heat and pour the fruit into the blender. Puree the plums in the blender until they are completely smooth.

5. Spread the plastic wrap over the baking sheet. Pour the pureed plums over the plastic wrap, spreading it so it is approximately ¼-inch thick.

6. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the fruit puree at 140 degrees F. The entire drying process takes between 8 and 12 hours.

7. Touch the fruit leather lightly to see if it is finished baking. If it is not sticky and is smooth, the fruit leather is finished.
