Make Savory Pancakes

Make Savory Pancakes

The savory pancake is an Asian dish. It is sometimes called the "however you like it" pancake because you can add whatever you want to it. However, this pan-fried cake is really nothing like the ones commonly eaten for breakfast. Some ethnic restaurants even let the customers cook this dish themselves at the table, courtesy of a griddle. Though most savory pancake batters include shredded cabbage, it really is up to you what goes in it. Cheap and simple to make, these pancakes can leave you feeling full and satisfied every time.

Instructions

Make Savory Pancakes

1. Fry the all of the bacon and set it on a plate to cool. Once it is cooled, tear the bacon into small pieces. Next, cut the onion and bell pepper into little pieces.

2. Cut the cabbage into very small pieces. Put the bacon, onion, bell pepper and cabbage in a bowl and set aside. You can shred the cabbage with a grater instead of cutting with a knife.

3. Put the flour in a bowl. In another bowl, whisk the milk, salt, black pepper and eggs. Next, pour the egg mixture in with the flour and stir until the batter is smooth.

4. Add the cabbage mix to the pancake batter and stir. The batter will be thicker than breakfast pancake batter. If too thick, add a teaspoon of milk to thin it down a little.

5. Pour the olive oil into a nonstick skillet or griddle and heat at medium heat. Add enough batter to the skillet to get as big a pancake as you want. Cooking spray can be used instead of olive oil.

6. Cook the savory pancake between 5 and 7 minutes or until the bottom is light golden brown. Flip over and let the other side cook as long as the first side. Repeat with the rest of the batter.

7. Before eating your savory pancakes, let cool slightly.
