Make Natural Bbq Sauce

Barbecue sauce is most commonly used on ribs, but also goes well with chicken and shrimp.

Natural barbecue sauce is made of ingredients created by Mother Nature, not by a scientist in a food lab. It is free of pesticides and other chemicals which are not naturally found in food and, because of that, most food lovers prefer the taste of natural barbecue sauce over the taste of processed sauces. To make your own natural barbecue sauce, all you need is a few ingredients, some cookware and about an hour of time. When purchasing ingredients, buy organic foods that are free of any preservatives.

Instructions

1. Peel the onion and cut it into 1/4 inch cubes. Peel the garlic cloves. Rest the side of the chef's knife blade on top of one of the garlic cloves. Slam your fist down on the blade to crush the garlic cloves. Repeat with the other two cloves.

2. Place a large stock pot over high heat. Let the pot heat for one minute. Add the vegetable oil and wait for it to start smoking. Turn the heat down to medium when the oil begins to smoke.

3. Add the onion and garlic to the pan and sweat them until they are soft. Sweating is the process of cooking ingredients over a relatively low heat until they soften. Sweat the onion and garlic until they are soft; about five minutes.

4. Add all other ingredients to the pot.

5. Turn the heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil. Boil the mixture for five minutes.

6. Turn off the heat.

7. Pour the mixture into a blender. Leave the plastic cap off of the blender. Instead, loosely hold a towel over the small opening. Leaving the cap off allows the steam to escape, which prevents pressure from building inside of the blender; too much pressure causes the blender top to explode which creates a mess. Using a towel to cover the opening prevents any of the mixture from splashing out of the blender. If you have a stick blender, also known as a motorboat, puree the liquid while it is in the pot.

8. Puree the mixture until it is smooth. Return the mixture to the pot.

9. Return the pot to the stove and turn the heat on high. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook it until the mixture thickens to the consistency of barbecue sauce. Stir constantly to keep the sauce from burning.

10. Turn off the heat. Taste the sauce. Add salt and pepper to your taste preference.

11. Let the barbecue sauce cool to room temperature for storing if you don't use it right away. Store the barbecue sauce in an airtight plastic container. Place the airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer. The sauce will keep for two weeks in the refrigerator and up to six months in the freezer.
