Thicken Jarred Caramel Sauce

Jarred caramel can be used in a variety of desserts.

If you have purchased a jar of caramel sauce that is too thin, you can make it more dense by thickening it with the help of heavy cream and cornstarch. By adding the ingredients and using a specific heating technique, you will get a thicker caramel sauce that has not had its flavor altered in any way from the original caramel sauce. The technique is quite simple and can be done in a short amount of time.

Instructions

1. Whisk 1 tablespoon of cornstarch per 1 cup of jarred caramel sauce you wish to thicken in a small bowl with double the amount of heavy cream. For example, if you wanted to thicken 2 cups of jarred caramel sauce, you would combine 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 4 tablespoons of heavy cream.

2. Pour the amount of jarred caramel sauce that you wish to thicken in a medium saucepan and set over low heat until the caramel is warm, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon.

3. Pour in the cornstarch and cream mixture, combining well.

4. Remove the caramel sauce from the heat and allow to cool. The caramel will thicken as it cools.
