African Sun Spices

African Sun produces a variety of soup spices.


African Sun is a West African company that produces spices, mixes and other dried foods. The spices range from common ones to those used as a basis for various West African cuisines. The spices are mainly distributed by Wanis Ltd., a United Kingdom company.


Bitter Leaf


This product consists of the leaf form of a West and Central African vegetable. It has a bitter, sweet taste. Bitter leaf is an essential ingredient for African soups such as ndole, a spicy fish soup that includes tomatoes and greens. It is sold in packages of small grams or the equivalent of 1 to 2 oz.


Ground Ogbono


Ground ogbono is a popular spice in Nigeria and the surrounding area. It is the crushed kernels of the wild mango tree. Ground ogbono is mainly used to make ogbono soup, which consists of a variety of meats and greens, along with peppers. It is also used as a thickener for other soups, and with pounded yam.


Ukazi Leaves


Ukazi leaves are another basis for soup, especially afang soup, which is popular in Nigeria, and is often made to commemorate a special event. This soup includes various dried fish, peppers and palm oil. The meal usually includes pounded yam.
