Russia is a beautiful country with a rich history and culture. Russian arts are very eye-catching and ornate, with painstaking attention to decorative detail. The Faberge egg is probably one of the most well known Russian arts, made by the House of Faberge. These eggs were made of precious metals and gems. Another well-known craft from Russia is the nesting dolls, featuring the babushka woman of folklore who was believed to have followed the wise men to the Christ child.
Instructions
Faberge Egg
1. Take a plastic Easter egg or wooden egg shape. Spray paint it gold with acrylic craft paint. Allow it to dry.
2. Take a string of fine gold-colored beads. Glue them around the egg from the top to the bottom. Divide the egg into quarters with the beads. Use a clear drying gel glue.
3. Glue some craft gems onto the egg with a clear drying gel glue. Create decorative patterns. Allow the glue to dry.
4. Spray the egg with a clear acrylic sealer to give it luster and help hold the embellishments in place.
Nesting Doll Containers
5. Take several empty containers of varying sizes. Each one should fit inside another one. You can use coffee cans, oatmeal containers, vegetable or soup cans, nut cans, plastic food containers or plastic spice containers.
6. Remove labels from the containers and clean them if necessary. Wrap each container with a piece of cardstock and tape it to the container.
7. On the container, draw two interlocking ovals, the top one smaller than the bottom one. This will be the head and body of the babushka. It should be the size of the container from top to bottom.
8. Make a circle in the top part, for the head. Draw a face inside the circle with rosy cheeks and a pleasant smile.
9. Draw a small bow under it for the tied kerchief. Decorate the body as a colorful dress. Add an apron, arms and hands. Color your babushka image.
10. Make a slightly different looking babushka on each of the containers. Place the smallest inside the next smallest, and so on, until they are all snug inside of the largest container.
