Popped potato chips
are a homemade version of the classic snack that are healthier because they are not processed and use all natural ingredients. The potatoes are prepared and baked using a certain technique that leaves them puffy from the heat of the oil, giving them their signature namesake. Popped potato chips are simple to make and can be dipped in a variety of sauces, including ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce or ranch dressing.
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Place a washed potato on a cutting board and use a sharpened chef's knife to slice the potato into slices 1/16 inch thick.
3. Lightly coat the potato slices in vegetable or olive oil and scatter in a single layer over a baking sheet.
4. Place the chips into the oven and bake for 3 minutes. Use tongs to flip the chips over.
5. Bake for an additional 2 minutes or until the chips are fluffy and very slightly golden brown.
6. Let the chips cool for 10 minutes before serving.
