High-quality saffron is grown and widely used in the Persian region.
You can cook authentic Persian meals at home by seasoning food with the spices of the Middle East. Persian cuisine originates in the region that is now called Iran, but the seasonings also show influences from the surrounding region. Persian cooks use a variety of spices, preserved citrus and herb blends to create complex flavor in meat and vegetable dishes. It only takes a few minutes of research to find a selection of spices for cooking full-flavored traditional Persian fare.
Instructions
1. Make a list of the Persian spices that you need to complete the authentic dish. See the link in Resources for Persian recipes with complete ingredients lists.
2. Research local Middle Eastern, Indian and African markets and restaurants in a phone book or online. Call ahead to speak with the owner or manager and see if they will sell the spices you are looking for in whole or ground form. See the link in Resources for a state by state Persian/Iranian restaurant directory.
3. Place an online order for Persian spices if they are not readily available in the local area. Many Persian spices are packaged and sold in multi-spice blends. Spices are relatively lightweight and inexpensive to ship.
