Microwave Cranberry Sauce

You can quickly cook cranberries in a microwave.

Either canned or homemade cranberry sauce can be found on most Thanksgiving dinner tables. Best known as an accompaniment to a turkey feast, cranberry sauce features a sweet and tangy flavor. Cranberry sauce can also be used as a sandwich condiment or in several dessert recipes. If you're short on time but still want to prepare homemade cranberry sauce on the day before or the morning of a holiday dinner, you can make it in minutes by using a microwave rather than a stovetop.

Instructions

1. Place 12 ounces of fresh or frozen cranberries into a microwave-safe bowl.

2. Add 1 1/4 cups of white granulated sugar to the bowl of cranberries.

3. Pour 1/2 cup of fresh orange juice or 1/2 cup of water into the bowl, depending on whether you prefer the sauce to have citrusy flavor or not.

4. Grate 1 teaspoon of orange rind using a grater and add it to the bowl.

5. Combine all of the ingredients by mixing them with a spoon.

6. Cover the bowl with a sheet of wax paper. Place the bowl into a microwave and cook the mixture on high for five minutes.

7. Take the bowl out of the microwave and stir the mixture. Place the bowl back into the microwave and cook the mixture for another five to seven minutes, or until the cranberries break open and a thick sauce has formed.

8. Remove the bowl from the microwave and let the sauce stand until it is cool. Chill the cranberry sauce in a refrigerator for three to four hours before serving.
