Greenpoint, Brooklyn is one of the best neighborhoods in New York City for drinking and barhopping. From hipster pubs to slick martini bars, Greenpoint has great drinking options for everyone, and keeps the cocktails affordable with lower Brooklyn prices!
Instructions
1. Take the "G" train to Greenpoint Avenue. You can get to the "G" train by way of transfers from the "E" at 21st St./Ely in Queens, or the Metropolitan/Lorimer "L" train stop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
2. Exit the Greenpoint Avenue station on the Greenpoint Avenue side (the other side is India Street) and walk one long block west, toward the river, on the south side of the block. You will see the Pencil Factory on the corner of Greenpoint Avenue and Franklin Street. The Pencil Factory is a dark and friendly hipster bar with over 20 delicious beers.
3. After you are satisfied with your Pencil Factory experience, cross over Franklin Street and walk half a block more to Lulu's, a rather hip bar tucked in a warehouse and recognizable by a large, blinking neon sign reading "Bar." Grab a beer or a cocktail at the heavily stacked bar and then head to the back for pool, foosball, darts or ping pong.
4. From Lulu's, take a right toward Franklin Street and then a left. Cross the block to Lost & Found, a huge, warehouse-sized space with cheap beer, skee-ball, and free hot dogs or veggie dogs with the purchase of a drink. (You may want to coat your stomach with food at this point in the night.)
5. From Lost & Found, hang a left, continuing down Franklin until you pass Java Street. Walk half a block farther and duck into Van Gogh's Radio Lounge, a tiny slip of a bar that usually offers up the strangest clientèle a people-watcher could hope for. But the drinks are cheap, and there's often a ball game on the huge projection screen.
6. Stumble out of Van Gogh's and continue to work your way down two blocks to Green Street. Cross the street and go into t.b.d, Greenpoint's resident fancy bar. Stretch out on the leather seats and enjoy the elbow room, as well as the ambiance and the well-stocked bar.
7. For your nightcap, exit the side door of t.b.d and walk east, toward Manhattan Avenue. When you get to the corner of Green Street and Manhattan, take a left, crossing the street, and continue half a block to the Mark Bar. This was one of the original hipster dive bars in the neighborhood, and it maintains its cheap beer and offbeat decor.
8. After finishing your nightcap, leave the Mark Bar and head two blocks south, back to the "G" train station, this time at India Street. If you night is ending late, you may want to invest in a car service to get home. Try Malone's Car Service on Greenpoint Avenue: (718) 383-0200.
