Make Wild Long Grain Rice In A Rice Cooker

If you know the right amount of cooking time, you can make delicious wild rice in a rice cooker.

When you use a rice cooker to cook your rice, you can enjoy tasty rice cooked to perfection. If you are a wild rice fan, a meal featuring the nutty goodness of wild rice might be a favorite in your household. You can make wild rice in a rice cooker, as long as you pay attention to the ratio of liquid to rice. Because wild rice requires a long cooking time, your rice cooker must have a cooking setting that lasts long enough.

Instructions

1. Measure the wild rice into the large bowl for rinsing. Use 1 cup of wild rice to make four servings, 1 1/2 cup wild rice to serve six and 2 cups to serve eight.

2. Cover the wild rice with cold water and swirl the rice around in the water with your hands for about five seconds. Pour off the water without pouring the rice with it. Repeat the rinsing process one or two more times to make sure the rice is completely clean.

3. Pour the rinsed rice into the rice cooker. Add two parts water or broth to the one part wild rice. For example, if you used 1 cup of wild rice, add 2 cups of water or broth.

4. Set the rice cooker to the brown rice setting.

5. Allow the rice cooker to progress through the entire cooking process and then leave it in the "warm" stage for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure the rice absorbs all the liquid.

6. Open the rice cooker after the warming time elapses and look at the wild rice. When wild rice cooks fully, it "pops" and you will see a grayish color protruding out of the dark outer hull.

7. Season the wild rice with salt and pepper and serve the rice immediately.
