Make Real Nacho Cheese

Nacho cheese sauce is easy to make.

Melted cheese dips are a delicious dipping sauce for chips and nachos. These popular, store-bought nacho cheese dips are expensive and contain plenty of artificial flavors and preservatives to prolong their shelf life. It is simple to pick up a bottle of nacho cheese sauce at your supermarket, but making it at home will ensure it will taste better and contain no chemical preservatives.

Instructions

1. Grate ½ cup of Monterey Jack cheese and 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese in a bowl.

2. Melt 2 tbsp. butter or margarine in a medium-size saucepan. Add 1 tbsp. cornstarch, 2 tbsp. cream cheese and ½ cup of fresh milk or evaporated milk. Stir the mixture over low heat until smooth.

3. Add the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack into the mixture and stir until it is melted.

4. Add 1 tbsp. of hot sauce or cayenne pepper into the nacho cheese sauce. Stir the mixture for 2 to 3 minutes. Serve hot.

5. Transfer any leftover sauce to a microwavable container. This nacho sauce will harden after 30 minutes, so you will need to warm it up again next time.
