Banana slices are simple to dehydrate.
Dehydration is the process of removing moisture from meats, vegetables and fruits. It prevents the growth of mold, yeast and bacteria which causes food to spoil. This process allows users to enjoy healthy, quick snacks without the need for refrigeration. Dried fruits, such as bananas, are a popular choice for dehydration and can be prepared easily using the NuWave infrared oven.
Instructions
1. Peel the bananas and rinse them under cold running water.
2. Cut each banana into 1/4-inch slices. Remove pieces with brown spots.
3. Place the bananas in a single layer on the NuWave drying rack. Do not overcrowd the slices, since you will need airflow in between each piece for proper dehydration.
4. Place the rack of bananas inside the NuWave.
5. Press the "Cook Time" button. Use the keypad and enter "400" for four hours.
6. Press the "Power Level" button, then press "3" on the keypad to select the 175 degree Fahrenheit setting. Press the "Start" button to begin dehydrating your bananas.
7. Remove the bananas and allow them to cool completely. Test the banana slices for doneness by placing them into a large container, no more than two-thirds full. Cover tightly with a lid, then shake the container to mix the contents. If you see any condensation on the lid or the container, place the bananas back into the NuWave and continue dehydrating. Otherwise, store in a warm, dry place.
