Ideas For Chili Cookoff Themes

Serve up chili while participating in a chili cook-off.

Dress up your chili cook-off booth so you and your group will claim the prize of most creative booth. Chili cook-offs, which are held for fundraisers or in conjunction with other events such as town festivals, encourage participants to decorate their booth to reflect a theme. Themes can be based around the type of chili you prepare or they can be something off the wall that has nothing to do with chili at all.

The Chili Luau

Set up your booth to reflect a luau party complete with hula dancers and conga playing men. Purchase several grass skirts for the women to wear and to use as decorations on the booth. Place a bright blue or pink tablecloth over the front of the booth and hang the grass skirts in front of the tablecloth. Cut flowered leis in in half and hang them across the top of the grass skirt ties to conceal any tape that is used to hold the skirts in place. Purchase blow up palm trees to place on either side of the booth and make small chili beans to hang from the trees instead of coconuts. Dress each person in luau attire and have a man playing the conga drums in front. If the drums are not an option then play Hawaiian music to the crowd.

Russel Up Some Chili

Spice up your booth with some kickin' hot chili and a hot western theme. Purchase a string of chili pepper lights to hang in the front of your booth over a western theme tablecloth. Hang a homemade sign with horseshoe pictures drawn on either side and the name of your booth in the center. In addition to chili, serve tortilla chips and salsa in a sombrero and use western theme bowls to serve the chili. Dress participants in bandannas and western wear to complete the look.

ChiliWood

ChiliWood is a booth centered around the bright lights of Hollywood. Dress the booth in black and silver tablecloths and place stars all over the table top and on the floor surrounding the booth. Create a sign similar to the Hollywood sign to hang on the front of your booth. Place homemade road signs on the sides of the booth to highlight some of the famous streets such as Rodeo Drive, Hollywood or Chiliwood Boulevard and Sunset Strip. Each participant should dress as a famous Hollywood movie star.

Pirates of the Chilibean Booth

Jump aboard a pirate ship at the chilibean booth. Transform the booth into a pirate ship by draping the table in brown roll paper or tablecloth. Draw pirate emblems on the paper and create a porthole to place in the center. Place a pole to the side of your booth and wave a skull flag to represent pirates or make your own flag that is specific to your booth. Dress the crew, or participants up as pirates or deck hands.
