Make Applesauce Brownies

Applesauce incorporated into a brownie recipe creates a cake-like texture to the recipe. Using unsweetened applesauce and cutting back on the sugar-based ingredients make this a popular dessert recipe for diabetics--the applesauce replaces oil. The fruity flavor of the applesauce enhances the chocolate/cocoa-based dessert, bringing a new twist to an old reliable recipe.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

2. Grease the baking pan with shortening and 1 tsp. of flour.

3. Mix the eggs, brown sugar and softened butter with a mixing spoon in a large bowl.

4. Fold in the applesauce and vanilla extract.

5. Blend in all of the remaining ingredients except for the walnuts and chocolate chips and then mix well.

6. Stir in the walnuts and the chocolate chips.

7. Pour the mix into the baking pan and cook for 30 minutes in the oven or until done. Use a toothpick to test for doneness. When the toothpick come out clean, the brownies are done. Allow to cool or serve warm.
