Make Homemade Onion Rings

You can make onion rings at home with just a little time and effort.

If you like frozen onion rings that you purchase at the store, you might also enjoy those you can make at home. They take only a little time and effort and don't require too many ingredients.

Instructions

1. First, cut your onions into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Once you finish this step, the rest of the work is pretty simple.

2. In a large bowl, add your buttermilk and onions and allow them to soak for at least 30 minutes. You will need to stir occasionally so that they are covered. Then, in a shallow bowl, beat the eggs and water together. In another bowl, combine the flour, salt and garlic powder. You will then need to drain the excess buttermilk off of your onion rings. Then dip them in your egg mixture. After that, roll them in your flour mixture.

3. In an electric skillet or deep fryer, heat your oil to 375 degrees. You need enough oil to cover the onion ring. Fry only a few at a time so that they do not stick together. Fry for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels to avoid having excess grease. This makes approximately 8 servings.
