Open Peanuts

Roasted peanuts are favorite treat at ball parks.

Peanuts have high amounts of fat but it is a good form of unsaturated fat that may help the heart. According to the Peanut Institute, peanuts have needed nutrients including several vitamins, iron and magnesium. A tasty way to enjoy these legumes is by popping them right out of the shell. To get the nut out successfully, you'll need to learn how open the shells.

Instructions

1. Turn the peanut between your thumb and forefinger to locate the peanut's seam. The seam is the thin section of the nut that holds the two long halves together. This section is thinner than the fibrous shell and easier to open.

2. Look for the waist of the peanut. This is the thinnest area of the nut that joins the top and bottom half. Place your thumb on the lower part of the peanut on the seam, right below the waist.

3. Press down on the seam with your thumb simultaneously squeezing from the back with your forefinger. This will crack the seam and allow you to open the peanut.

4. Remove the nuts inside the shells. Do not eat the shells, only the nuts.
