The Ways To Serve Fresh Pineapple

Fresh pineapple is a nutritious fruit that is versatile and easy to serve.

A fresh pineapple has a sweet taste that complements several other foods and provides many health benefits. It is rich in vitamin C and contains the enzyme bromelain which helps with digestive problems. Eat fresh pineapple to help build and repair body tissues and metabolize fats. This versatile fruit is delicious served alone or combined with other ingredients. Ripe pineapples are easy to cut up and serve in a variety of different ways.

Pineapple Salsa

Bring out the flavor of broiled fish, pork, beef or chicken with the unique taste of pineapple salsa. Combine fresh pineapple chunks with green and red bell peppers, chopped green onions, cilantro, salt, pepper and honey to make a delicious salsa ready to serve after only a few minutes. Add jalapeno peppers for a spicier taste. Use only fresh pineapple in this recipe because of its natural sweetness.

Breakfast Smoothie

Fresh pineapple adds a touch of sweetness to a healthy morning smoothie. Combine fresh pineapple chunks, oranges, mangoes, tangerines, low-fat plain yogurt, skim milk and ice in a blender to make a smooth, healthy and delicious morning eye-opener. Try other fruits with fresh pineapple for a different flavor combination. For example, bananas and pineapple blended together make a smoothie that is high in potassium and vitamin C.

Pineapple Parfait

This recipe is chocked full of pineapple taste and goodness. Place fresh pineapple chunks in a baking pan and bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. Cool after baking and combine with bananas, caramel ice cream topping and cinnamon. Layer the fruit mixture in a parfait glass with vanilla yogurt and low fat granola. Garnish with a pineapple chunk skewered on a toothpick.

Tropical Salad

Make a cooling tropical salad for summer dining with fresh pineapple and other fruits. Mix pineapple chunks with bananas, mangoes, kiwi, green and red grapes and mandarin oranges together in a decorative glass bowl. Provide poppy seed dressing for an added touch of flavor. Serve the salad alone or combined with a tray of assorted cheeses and crackers.

Fruit Kabobs

Fresh pineapple adds just the right touch of flavor and color to fruit kabobs. Skewer chunks of pineapple, whole fresh strawberries, large pieces of bananas, slices of kiwi, orange segments and apple chunks on bamboo skewers and refrigerate until they are icy cold. Serve the fruit kabobs for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner for a different side dish. Serve these kabobs with snack foods and drinks at parties.

Grilled Pineapple

Fresh pineapple adds flavor to meat dishes such as beef and pineapple kabobs cooked on the grill. Marinate boneless top sirloin steak in teriyaki sauce. Then cut into 1/4 inch strips and skewer onto stainless steel or bamboo skewers along with whole water chestnuts and chunks of fresh pineapple. Grill over medium heat about four minutes. Use chicken instead of beef for a different taste.
