Easy Fruit Dip

There are many easy fruit dip recipes out there that have only three to five ingredients. Most fruit dip recipe recipes center around a dairy product such as yogurt or cream cheese to add bulk and act as a base, a sweetening agent such as honey or marshmallow creme, and any number of flavorings such as juice or cinnamon. Fruit dips are easy to make because you basically put everything in a bowl and stir it up.

Dairy Base

The most common dairy bases for fruit dip are yogurt, cream cheese and sour cream. The dairy base in many ways will determine the texture of the fruit dip. Cream cheese is more structured and should be softened before use in a fruit dip. Even then, it will be thicker. Sour cream and yogurt will give a similar result texture-wise. Sour cream, true to its name, will lend a more sour, sharper taste and is a little thicker. Whatever dairy product you choose, it should go in the bowl first.

Sweetening Agent

Sugar, honey, brown sugar, marshmallow creme, powdered sugar, pudding, artificial sweetener and juice can all be used to sweeten your fruit dip. The marshmallow creme and the fruit juice will alter the texture. Juice will make the fruit dip thinner. Marshmallow creme is the secret ingredient to make a fruit fluffy in an easy way. It is often mixed in almost equal parts with cream cheese. Add one sweetening agent, not a whole bunch. Sweeten to taste.

Flavorings

Flavorings are not a necessary thing in a fruit dip, but they can add something special to the taste. Vanilla extract, chopped walnuts, a small amount of cherry juice---there are tons of different things to do with a fruit dip. Vanilla extract and cinnamon work great together, as do citrus flavors grouped together such as a splash of orange juice and a bit of triple sec. Walnuts add a great extra texture to most dips.
