Set A Table For Afternoon Snacks

Snacks can provide energy to fuel your body throughout the day.

Regular snacks play an important part in your daily nutrition, as they provide the energy that fuels your body throughout the day. If you like to sit down to snacks in the afternoon or have several people to cater for, you will benefit from some practical tips about set the snack table. Your layout depends on whether you choose buffet-style snacks, where people visit the table to pick from a selection of foods, or a sit-down snack time, with all guests seated around the table.

Instructions

1. Set out the tablecloth. People pick up many snack foods with their hands, so there's a chance of crumbs and spillage.

2. Stack small plates, serviettes and cutlery on the left side of the table, if serving buffet-style. You may not need cutlery if you have only finger food, such as chips, sandwiches and crackers.

3. Add place mats and plates around the edge of the table as you would for any meal, if you intend to seat guests for snacks. Serviettes belong folded on or to the right side of the plate. If you need cutlery, lay it where you would for a normal meal: forks on the left, knives on the right, spoons across the top.

4. Arrange bowls, plates or containers of food in the center of the table. Set appropriate utensils, such as serving spoons, next to each dish, if required.

5. Set out cups or glasses on the left side of the table with bottles, jugs or other drinks containers behind, for people to help themselves. If you have time and space, lay out the cups separately and pre-fill, especially if you have children.
